Bushes, Camera, Food

Picture 1050 For the past 3 semester I have been spending my Saturday mornings at a local homeless shelter. However, due to recent safety concerns I decided to stop volunteering at the shelter in the best interest of myself and the rest of the UMBC volunteers.

I wanted to keep up with my Saturday morning volunteering, so I decided to go with my friend Yasmin to the Gwynns Falls Park Monthly Service Trip. Each month various students from UMBC come over and help clean up the park.

Picture 1068 I did not get to see too much of the park, but I do plan on coming back to bike into the city.

Picture 1052 We spent 2 hours pulling and chopping off vines and branches. I did not get a before shot of what we had started on. But it was badddd.

Picture 1054

Picture 1055 The thorns were the worst! They would just get you out of no where! We also saw 3 praying mantises nests. I am not really an outdoor+ manual labor kinda girl. But I got into it and made quick work of this nasty bush.

Chopping down is serious business.

Picture 1053 Even though it was freezing cold- we all were dressed for the weather and quickly warmed up.

Picture 1056 We also got to play with some fun tools!

Picture 1057 Post clean up, I rushed over to meet my friend Dan. He had asked me to be in a movie for a class project and I happily accepted.

Picture 1059 I mean we all have to start somewhere, right?

Picture 1058 I was slightly awkward saying my lines naturally- I wanted to get all the words correct and I sounded forced.

But I managed to get them done, I hope Dan’s project turns out well!

Picture 1061 So at 4 pm I realized that I had only eaten a granola bar and I had been awake for 9 hours.  I was in serious hunger mode.

I headed over to the only place that could take care of my hunger. Pizza 786 a local halal diner.

Picture 1064 I enjoyed my lovely company….

Picture 1063 And went to town on some fries and wings.

Picture 1065 Things got a bit messy. I also ate an unpictured philly cheese steak. Hunger has no time for a photo shoot!

Have you ever been in a movie for fun?

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend thus far miss Sana. :) I think it’s great that you try to volunteer when you can. It makes me remember that I really need to get involved with volunteering here in Richmond.

I’ve been in a student film before when one of our friends was in film school. Thankfully I didn’t have any speaking parts. :)

  3. Oh the thorns don’t look fun at all, but the volunteering does! It reminds me of my college days when I used to volunteer zillions of hours a month for different organizations. You’re inspiring me to get back into it!

  4. Your stories about volunteering are definitely inspiring!
