My Head Hurts When I Blink

*Giveaway at the bottom of the post*

Yesterday, I was not feeling awesome when I woke up, my head hurt every time I made a move, and the fact that it was the weekend before midterms was not helping.

With the help of a long shower and some Advil, I felt human enough to join the living world.

You know it’s bad when your head hurts when you blink.

I knew I should stay home and study, but I decided to go to VA with my parents for lunch, the hour long drive would be the perfect time for my to study.

But first a photo-shoot while my mom and I were waiting for my dad to come outside, who by the way takes the longest time to get ready and out the door.

(I clearly don’t look as well as I thought I was feeling)

This sums up the relationship between my mom and I

Even though my dad is fashionably late to everything, he is also a photo hog. Every time he sees someone posing for a picture, he jumps right in!

Note the awkward.

After an hour of me reading my Developmental Biology notes to my parents, (they were thrilled) and arguing with the GPS we arrived.IMG_2428

The reason for he drive to VA? My dad’s brother from Pakistan is visiting America for a US book tour!

Since most of my Dad’s family does not live in America, I love the opportunity to meet his relatives.

Along with my Uncle another famous person was at the event. My mom could not remember who he was but remembers watching him on TV when she was growing up in Pakistan.

Really helpful mom.

After the book speeches we all took a break for snacks and more pictures!

I enjoyed some samosas and chaat papri.

And some cake that I shared with my mom.

Their were a lot of people taking pictures with my Uncle, but I was finally able to squeeze in a shot with everyone.

It’s totally awkward but, it will do. When I got home I sampled some Indian Sweets my parents had bought. Indian desserts are wayyy too sweet, so you can only have a tiny bite of everything.

Since the “lunch” in VA ended up being appetizers only, I was starving when I got home.

For lunch I had some leftover Asian chicken with rice and kettle cooked chips. Am I the only person that eats chips with rice? I like the crunch.

And dinner was a Shrimp Alfredo Lean Cuisine that my sister bought for herself, but I ate it anyways.

She loves me.

And for my 3rd dessert of the day, I had apple pie. In my defense, it was homemade so it does not really count as dessert. Just kidding!

To be honest, I mostly just ate to avoid studying. I love school, I love learning but studying for exams makes me anxious. Eating is how I cope.

Last week, Slim-Fast contacted me to review a new product that they were launching:

Slim·Fast is shedding the can to introduce its new, best-tasting shake ever – all inside a convenient, on-the-go bottle. The new shakes are creamy, rich and feature 10 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber and 24 essential vitamins and minerals, making it easier – and tastier – than ever to go from now to “wow”.”

Flavors include Creamy Milk Chocolate, French Vanilla, Rich Chocolate Royale, Cappuccino Delight and Strawberries N’ Cream.

While I personally have  never tried any Slim-Fast products before this review, I have seen a lot of students in college eating and drinking Slim-Fast products in between classes or during lecture.

I can see the appeal in a shake being 180 calories, having 6g of fat and 10g of protein. However the shakes also have 18g of sugar as well as many vitamins.

Looking on the Slim-Fast website, I found a 3-2-1 plan that provides a guide for individuals interested in losing weight.

Slim-Fast Plan

3(100 calorie snacks) + 2(180 calorie shakes)+1 (500 calorie meal)= too much calorie counting for my personal taste.

What I actually found useful on the Slim-Fast website was the meal plan guide, I think it’s helpful for people who are stuck in a dinner rut an looking for something healthy as a meal option.

Anther helpful thing that I found on the website was the ask a dietitian page, sometimes it’s nice to be able to ask an expert when you have a nutrition question. And I think it’s awesome that Slim-Fast offers that to it’s members.

My question would be: Lately everyone talks about low carb diets, or cutting out carbs as much as possible. What would you recommend for a stay at home mom to do, when the food she prepares for her kids has carbs?

I’d ask her for alternative ways to add nutrients to my mostly dairy free, vegetarian diet :D

I’d ask her about the ingredient list – whats in the shake and why?

  12. cait says:

Hmm thats a great question. I’d ask her what are the pros and cons to Slimfast and has she experienced anything negative about the brand?

  13. cait says:

I tweeted :) I’d love to win this girl! My sister would love to have this for her birthday!

  14. Kelli says:

I am allergic to most fruits and raw veggies. I would ask Ali what she would suggest for healthy eats since my options feel so limited sometimes! My diet at the moment is mostly pasta and lean proteins.

I would ask Ali what foods help boost energy. She is really cute, btw!

Sana, do you think you will go on the Slim Fast diet? I am such a texture person that I think I would get bored with all the drinking.

    • Sana says:

Hahah, I would never go on a diet. I love food too much. And if I were to replace a smoothie with a meal, I would make it myself.
Did I mention I love eating?

  19. sonia says:

i would ask her how and how much carbs a vegetarian should get? i just learned in my nutriton therapy class that even vegetarians can get CHF bc their excess carbs get turned into TG, makes mewonder a lo
