Plank Walk with Side Planks

The best part about being a group fitness instructor is being able to see exercise moves that I totally made up in my head come into fruition.

I think last week in the middle of class I came up with an idea of having people do partner plank walks towards each other and meeting in the middle for some high-five side planks.

Luckily yesterday was my last day of teaching till the start of the winter semester so I was able to snag 2 of my regulars to help me out for a quick video.

Plank Walk with Side Planks

To start off I have everyone in my class break off and have two teams on either side of the mats that I have laid out. I love doing group work in my ab class because it breaks up the class and people get to interact with one another.

In actuality I had 4 mats laid out, so everyone plank walked across two mats but I only used 2 for the video.

Once you start your plank walk, take careful note to make sure you keep your belly button tight and your back flat as you move from full plank (on your hands) to a modified plank (on your fore arm).

When you walk, you move your leading leg followed by your leading arm and the other two will follow.

When you are in  middle you and your partner meet in the middle for a high five on the same side as you do a side plank. You do the whole exercise again in the opposite direction to work the other side.

As you are doing your side planks, take note that you come all the way over to the side, even with your feet as they should be stacked or staggered together. See picture below!

As always you can modify this exercise with a modified plank ( on your knees). Add more mats and add more side planks in the middle.

I am excited for classes to resume come Jan 3rd so I can come up with more workouts!

Yesterday after teaching I decided to have something healthy for lunch after my greasy pizza, which left me feeling a tad queasy.

Did you know that Subway now offers selected 6’’ subs for only $2??? Talk about a deal!

You can get a meatball sub for $2, but a veggie sub is still the regular price, I really don’t get it.

And for dessert a special friend delivered me cookies to celebrate after a long exam <3

I am a lucky girl! And yes I ate them all, it would be rude not to!

Side planks. Yay or Nay?
