Exploding Glass: Baltimore Restaurant Week

by Sana on January 26, 2012

The best part about having a cafe one floor below where I work is being able to complain about the food with my co-workers.

I was really excited to have a side of mac&cheese for lunch when I realized that it was absolutely tasteless…it was as if the cheese was missing? My co-worker agreed and threw her’s in the trash, I managed to finish mine. Thankfully the tuna fish sandwich I ate tasted like it should.

Last night I got to wear these lovely earrings I bought from Banana Republic when I was visiting Texas over break.

A fancy dinner the night before the start of the spring semester requires fancy earrings.

I decided to participate in Baltimore Restaurant Week for the 2nd year and went to Da Mimmo per my friend’s request

We were pumped to try out the special menu and I had already picked out what I wanted to get. Unfortunately the group of people next to us had a situation with glass that just broke on the table, I think it was a case of a hot glass with cooler liquid but either way I was extra careful when I drank my water. No one in the party was badly hurt and the restaurant staff was very attentive in cleaning up the mess.

My friend ordered sparking water for the table, and I assumed it was complementary (silly me, I don’t get out enough) but was $10! We made sure to drink every drop.

Shrimp Reganati- I learned how to pull out shrimp meat from the tails, so cool!

Insalata Goat Cheese- I looked all over for some chucks of goat cheese but it was more on the creamy side.

I loved every single thing I ate, the portion sizes were perfect and I had plenty of room for dessert. I am not sure what exactly the name of the dessert was, but it was very similar to flan and it was one of the best desserts I have ever eaten.

I have always driven past Little Italy but this was my first experience with "authentic" Italian food, other than going to Italy of course.

I was pleased with the meal, but I do wish I had paid closer attention to the "side" items we ended up eating like garlic bread and the water. They were not a part of the menu and ended up adding to the total $$, rookie mistake.

Wait, I thought Muslims weren’t supposed to have alcohol? And every dish you ordered does (except dessert). You realize it doesn’t completely cook off, right?

Crap, do you think if the dish contains alcohol it would be mentioned in the description?
I guess I could have asked the serve but it did not cross my mind!

Oh boo, I see it now. Balsamic wine vinegar….I really need to be more careful about things like that. Thanks for the comment.
