After exclusively walking in my VFF’s for the past year and occasionally running .1 miles on the treadmill, I decided to try running outdoors.
Interesting video + article from Nature.com
I am by no means an expert on running barefoot, so do your own research before starting out. I only went for a 7-10 minute jog and I absolutely loved the run jog.
I did feel more of a “impact” in my lower back but I figured that it was just due to my injury, and it did not hurt at all.
I felt kinda fast!
SO SWEATY! This heat is intense!
My biggest reason for loving my VVF’s is because I can just slip them on and just go. I don’t have to stop and tie my shoes or worry about finding socks. One of my biggest fears while running is that I will trip over my laces and fall flat on my face.
I could still trip in the VFF’s but, my feet feel more “secure” as they contact the ground, and the front part of my foot naturally comes down before my heel.
I am not entirely sure if I will run in VFF’s exclusively but I like knowing that I have the option to do so. Since I don’t jog for more than 10 minutes in regular running shoes, I don’t see myself doing any run/jog past 10-20 minutes.
As always I want to make sure that I don’t reinjure my back, so I will obviously stop the moment anything feels funky.
Running “barefoot” was just SO much fun! I know a lot of people have mixed views on running barefoot/ in VFF’s but I just plan on doing what feels right for myself and my body.
Thoughts on running barefoot or in VFF’s?

what made me really like the minimalist shoes – i’ve run in vibrams and have now ran in 3 pairs of nike free – is the lower heel. most shoes that say they are made for my foot have a really high heel which makes the run feel heavy and awkward.
the lower heel feels lighter and speedier. i also have flat feet – and anything with an arch rubs my feet to death – seriously crazy blisters! the lax arch area allows my foot to hit as it naturally would.
I do feel lighter and faster, which is good because I am just getting back into running!
I run in Nike free runs, which are relatively mininalist, I guess. I have always wanted to try Vibrams, but I absolutely hate the feeling of toe-sock so I have a sneaking suspicion toe-shoes won’t feel good either. Do they feel weird?
It feels weird the first day, but I got used to it! You should go to REI and wear them around the store!
I have a pair of Vibrams and Merrell Pace Gloves, but for running, I stick to my Brooks Pure line which are minimalist, but not barefoot. I do like the 0 drop shoes for weights and walking my dog, though!
I love walking and lifting in the VFF’s! I just googled Merrell Pace Gloves and they look AWESOME!
You should go find some nice lush grass to run on outside and try actually running barefoot. Having been running in minimalist shoes for over a year now (vibram KSO’s and the minimus zero line from NB) I find that the way to have to most enjoyable experience is mixing in some barefoot running in my workouts.
I used to love walking in grass when I was little and I would scrunch up my toes so I would not step in dog poop or glass!
I’d love to at least give it a try! I love the feeling of running barefoot, so I imagine I’d like them!
I got my shoes from REI, love that store!
My favourite time to run barefoot in on the beach! :) What a great workout. I’ve never heard of these Vibrams, but they look so cool!
I would love to run on the beach!
I spot a lulu run:swiftly! I love running in the Vibrams but I often stub my toe. Did that happen to you?
YES I stub my toe while walking! And I loveeeeee the lulu swiftly shirt, it’s awesome in the humid weather!
I’ve been wanting to try those out! They freaked me out a bit though…they just don’t look supportive at all? Like they would hurt the bottom of my feet? But I’ve heard such a good things, need to give them a shot!
