Enjoyable Exercise

As you all know, I read a ton of health and fitness blogs. And while the tips, pictures and workouts are all great-I just get the general sense that most people are not that excited about exercising.

I mean, I know working out is not like winning the lottery, but can we get a little enthusiasm here?

I think the main reason that I am pretty excited about any workout is because, a) I don’t workout everyday b) I don’t force myself to exercise when I don’t want to (note, that is different from mentally pushing myself.) c) because I can freaking do it.

Take for instance this past Friday, I woke up exhausted from my run/studying on Thursday. I was planning on checking out a 10am barre class.

However, I spent a few extra minutes in bed and my mom brought me some coffee and pumpkin bread. Before you all think I am a spoiled brat, I know that I am. I am lucky.

Sure, I could have gotten in a morning workout and I might have had fun, but I realllly did not want to.IMG_0945

I spent the rest of my day at work training for a new position. My new job requires me to wear all black. I also realized that I don’t own that many black clothing items, what can I say?

I love my colors.

Unfortunately or fortunately I work right next to Panera. I have been enjoying many soups and salads for lunch and dinner.

Today, (Saturday) I had another opportunity to workout. My running group was meeting at 8 am to run a 5k. It was also 38 degrees at 8am, I considered going but running and being that cold did not sound all to enjoyable to me.

Instead, I slept in and went to the dentist with my brother, gotta love a dental practice with weekend hours.

Once I was done getting a minor cavity filled, I was free to decide what I wanted to do for my workout. I opted out of running for the gym so that I could do my physical therapy exercises.

If I am determined to become a runner, I need to make sure my body can deal with running 8 miles in one week.2012-10-13_17-58-56_686

I put on my favorite Pandora station and bounced along to some tunes on the crazy elliptical for 30 minutes. *with a super cheesy grin on my face* Yes, I am that girl.

I never remember to bring a lock for gym locker, so I end up having to get creative with where I stash my things. Oops.

I also spent some time stretching on the awesome stretching chair, and took a super awkward picture.

I finished up my time at the gym with some free weights, planks on a ball and some foam rolling.

This was not the most intense workout, however I was having a blast because I knew it was good for me and I wanted to do it.

For some people working out may just be a way to maintain a certain look and that is not a bad thing at all. However, being able to workout is something I will never take for granted and so I am going to get excited about it.

And I will do it on my own terms.

Do you get excited about your workout?

    What is your brother studying?
I thought that was a marshmallow in your drink — and then realized that you don’t normally put those in coffee…probably only I’d do something like that.

  2. Woo hoo, you know I love to sweat! I DO have to get it out of the way first thing though. It’s rought but worth it. Run run girl! :)

I would be SO excited if I could do a little more working out at this point. I’m resting an injury right now but I will not be able to mask my enthusiasm as soon as I can run, spin, hike, and ski!

I really need to get more excited about working out for sure! I do enjoy going for yoga class but when it comes to exerting myself I make up excuses. However you’re right! Working out is def not something we should take for granted!

  6. You gotta do what works for you! I love the stretching chair. I look all kinds of awkward on it and I don’t care.

Oh, and I could probably get away with not having to do any laundry for 2 weeks if the rule was to wear just black. I’m not sure what this says about me!

Sigh, my parents got really mad at me for not washing my clothes. I think it’s a waste if you wash after every wear- I usually wear regular clothes twice. But I immediately wash workout clothes.
      Stinky!

I’ve been less excited about blogging about my workouts because the posts seem to get repetitive, but I still love to workout! Unless I’m tired, then I’m like, nope, need the sleep. Or if there’s overhead squats, I hate those. But otherwise, yay! workout! wohooo!!
