What a difference

What a difference a few days makes in terms of running. In a prior post I complained about how difficult I found a recent run.

Sana

I totally love running.

I decided to spend one more day “recovering” from the silly cold I was dealing with, and last Thursday I decided to run on a treadmill instead. I usually never run on a treadmill, but I decided to run two miles on it just to see how things shook out.

I even got to run with my running buddy, because we were on side by side treadmills. Same thing, right?

I am shocked I managed to run for two miles without getting bored. To keep myself from going crazy I increased my speed every .10 miles.

It looked a little something like this :

Speed It Up

I started to speed up a bit more during the second mile because I really wanted to be done. I am guessing my treadmill workout paid off because I went on to run a “speedy” 2 mile race later on in the week.

In between runs I usually like to either rest or cross train. On Friday I took a Barre Fusion class at Fuseology Fitness.

barre

The class incorporated a lot of yoga/Pilates moves with some bar work and a resistance band. I was able to use an expired Living Social deal and cash it in for a drop in class. I absolutely loved the class! Rachel was an encouraging instructor and I felt like the class was a challenging one instead of something that I could breeze through.

Since I was running a 2pm race on a Sunday afternoon this was my fuel of choice:

bean hallow

I finally got to try Bean Hollow located in historical Ellicott City. The Chai Tea Latte I got was not as good as the ones from Starbucks, but the biscotti must have been the magic trick because I was able to run an awesome race!

I have decided that 2 miles is my favorite race distance! Well for now at least.

Before the race I had decided that I wanted to come in around 24 minutes, and I was more than thrilled when I beat my own goal.20130210_142844

I loved the race so much that the following week on Fat Tuesday I ran another local 2 mile race. I was a bit slower in this race but I was able to finish with a time that I could be happy with.

I ran the majority of the race alone since it was a smaller one, but I was able to finish with one of my former running buddies.

Not bad! I am really happy with my running performance this past week. I had a hard time dealing with the minor cold, but I was really able to come back once I was good to go!

What is your favorite distance to race?

Way to go, Sana! You’re doing great!

My favorite distance is the marathon.

I also really want to try the Chai tea latte from Starbucks. I tried their Vanilla Rooibos latte and was not a fan at all. Hope the Chai latte is more to my liking :)

I love the Chai Tea Latte from Starubucks! I get it with non fat milk! You are awesome for loving the marathon distance :)

    I think my favorite is a 10k race or a 10 mile…
Because I don’t “have” to be fast, I’m a slow runner (you know) and in a 5k or less I feel like I have to run my fastest! I have a 3 mile race this weekend with a friend of mine and she wants to finish in like 27… NOT

  3. You look adorable in that scarf picture! I love a good scarf too, they really jazz up an outfit!

Nice pace on your 2 mile races! I think my favorite distance changes all the time. When I’ve been doing a lot of interval training, I tend to prefer 5ks because I can really push myself, knowing that I don’t have to keep my pace too long! When I’ve been putting in the longer weekend runs (usually in the spring when the weather is nicer), I tend to like half marathons to cash in on the stamina I’ve built and settle into a comfortable pace.
