Running update: (The last time I blogged about running was May 7th) Don’t worry I ran a bit more after that.
1. I trained for a race I never ran.
2. I am currently not running for a month because I am fasting for the month of Ramadan.
3. I am perfectly content with both of those things.
I have always said that I love the social aspect of working out, I love getting together with people of all different ages and sweating together. And I love how I feel after a work out. Well maybe not after a hot summer run.
From about January to the end of June, I ran pretty consistently from freezing temperatures to the heat of the summer.
Some days I work up at 7 am to run, other days I ran at 7pm. I logged between 15-20 miles a week and ran about 4 times a week.
I almost never ran alone. And I always carried my water bottle or cell phone.
I think the key to me being so consistent with my running was that I had a coach, a training plan and wonderful people to run with. I ran with various people over the course of the 5 months. Sometimes we ran in silence other times we chatted up a storm.
And I loved every minute. Even when I wanted to vomit during the last 4 miler I was proud of my run.
When it came to running my goal was to never run the 10k. I just wanted to feel like I could be a runner. I wanted to know that I could go out and run 3-4 miles with a reasonable time.
I started of running and walking with about a 14-13 min/ mile average pace. And I finished running with about a 11 min/mile pace.
I actually never ran the race I signed up for. I woke up 15 minutes before the start of the race. Clearly, it was not meant to be.
On the bight side I have a $45 dollar t-shirt that my sister wears to bed
I was honestly soo exhausted from running in the heat that the last thing I wanted to do was blog about it. So I did not. But I do want to remember this point in my life so I am writing this post several months later.
I may not have run THE race that I trained for but I did run a 5k on Memorial Day that I was able to PR at. Basically, hill repeats and speed work pay off in a huge way.
Happy Memorial Day! Ran a 5k this am w/ bro. I had a 3 min PR 11:17 pace. Bro won his age group 5:37 pace!
From April 4th-June 9th I ran a 125 miles. That is crazy. But probably what many of you do in a month.
I also only ran in the rain ONCE. It was oddly refreshing.
I even got a cake to celebrate the end of my 10k training program.
Not running the 10k race is not the end of the world for me. I still love running and I will train for many more races once I am done fasting.
