First Run Of 2014

New Year’s Day Race!

I ran this exact same race last year and my goal was to come in faster than I did in 2013. A little hint, I met my goal (I was 7 mins faster)!

The way the race works is that you can start whenever you want, you just have to finish at 11 am. The catch is that you can’t use any timing devices. I had my phone on silent and hidden inside my jacket pocket.

New Years

I am the worst at running without any sort of timing device. The miles seem to go on forever. The run was not my very best, I just don’t think I am a morning runner. During mile 3 I stopped for an extended water break and I shed some layers. I am a huge fan of winter running, but when the weather is above 30 degrees I start to overheat.

I also walked the last bit of mile five since the race ended up hill. I am not sure if I was tired from running 6 miles two days ago, but I was definitely struggling.

But I am overjoyed that I was able to finish 7 minutes faster than last year, it’s amazing to see how far I have come! I am still thinking about my goals for this upcoming year. I am googling a ton of different races. I will be during 25 in the spring so I obviously want to do something EPIC!

I basically have never been at the point in my life where I am in good enough shape to train for something. The very last thing that I want to do is get injured.

I am looking at a few 10 mile-1/2 marathon races to kick off the 25th year of my life.

As always my main goal in life is to make healthy choices for my emotional, mental and physical health. This means, doing things for myself and less worrying about how others view me. This is obviously something I am sure we are all working on.

Eating healthier is something that I constantly struggle with. I am working on making sure I eat fruits and vegetables everyday and less eating out…again that is much easier said than done.

One of my favorite blended combos! I think the orange and mango steal the show.

Oh and the first snow fall of 2014!

Happy New Year, it’s going to be a good one!

My first run of the year is happening March 1st and I keep nagging my run buddies to keep in shape because I haven’t given up on a half on March 16th

My running buddies want to do a May 1/2 but I just don’t know if I can do it or not. I worry too much about my back injury :(

    PS that’s a cool sounding race – it’s sort of backwards… Right?
