I go through these phases where I want nothing to do with exercising, and all I want to do is crawl into my bed at the end of a long work day. I don’t fight these phases because I know it’s just a phase and  I will be back to my normal happy exercising self again. And I will want to talk about my workouts. Luckily that phase just ended for me.

Here is what I’ve been up to:

Swimming- learning how to swim at the age of 27 is super hard. If I ever have kids in the future, they will be in swim lessons from day one. My biggest struggle with swimming is that I think too much about what I need to do and drowning. I am still pretty uncomfortable in the water. However, I’ve made some improvements. I am very lucky to have a patient swim instructor who encourages me to keep on swimming!

SUPER SIDE NOTE: My swim instructor (Angie) and I met at a blogging event put together by Jessie who just released her first e-book. Now, I downloaded it ASAP because I enjoyed Jessie’s blog posts of her first had recount of being an Uber driver. I am super nosy and I loved every detail Jessie shared of her ride and guests. She also has the skill of talking about people where you feeling you are on the Uber ride with them!

ANYWAY back to my swimming update. It took me a while to feel comfortable in the water without any flotation devices. I am finally able to float, breathe and kick without any device. However, I am still working on adding my arms into the equation. Here are some videos of me in action:

I have this dream of being able to do a small triathlon in 2018, it’s on my list of things to do before I turn 30.

Running- I’m still going at it. I have not run anything more than 4 miles in a long time. It’s been slow but I am not giving up. I brought back the 5am runs. They truly are the worst to get up for but I have an awesome day when I am all done with it. Plus with this heat and humidity, I am not going to be out there running.

What I need to do is sign up for a race. My first race in a while is going to be a 5k, I used to not sign up for a short distance run that I can just do on my own. But it’s for a good cause and I need something to train for. I am running a 5k on August 20th to support NCCSAFE.

“The National Center for Citizen Safety mission is to provide the general public with resources and information to promote preparedness and safety awareness in the event of an act of domestic terrorism and to provide citizens with support resources.

These resources include everything from a 24/7 cyber tip line to report domestic tips on potential threats across the nation, to conducting training in both public awareness online and in regional and city venues, identify laws policies for the public response, and most importantly conduct campaigns nationwide through educational initiative and public private partnerships to prevent the victimization of the public-at-large.”

My pace is all over the place and running does not feel fun or easy at all. But I know if I keep pushing I will eventually hit the sweet spot and be able to add to my distance.

Pure Barre- Gosh. I love barre. AND what do I love even more? Pure Barre Platform. This class is everything! So far I’ve only taken two classes and I am HOOKED. It’s fast paced and fun!

Hot yoga- Is it crazy to go to hot yoga in 90+ degree weather? I am pretty sure it is. I don’t enjoy yoga. However, I only enjoy this particular hot yoga class, so I just keep going. It’s a relaxing 90 minute community class and I don’t feel like I need to keep up with the instructor. I just do what I can while I am sweating buckets. The best part is that on yoga nights I sleep so so so well.

Plus I go with a few of my friends so it’s awesome to see everyone while we sweat it out.

So yeah, I’m happy. Alive. And doing all the things I love.

I’ve been thinking about taking swimming lessons! I can swim a little, but it’s something I would like to get better at. Sounds like you found a great instructor :)

Sending you good thoughts! You’ll get to that triathlon! <3

Anything past a mile is a lot to me, so I give you super props, haha. Best of luck to you on the 5k! It'll be good training and that's awesome that it supports a great cause! :]

  4. So awesome that you are learning to swim. It isn’t easy and the fact that you are going for it is fabulous.

Yes for doing things you love! Way to go on the swimming! It is also my weakness and I really need to get to doing some adult lessons. I too want to do a triathlon some day. I think after I tackle my first full marathon, I’m hoping to take on swimming.
