You Don’t Have to Look Your Age

You always hear people telling others to act their age, but it’s not often you hear individuals being told to look their age…well not unless some uncharitable person has decided that the outfit someone is wearing is a little too young for them, anyway! That’s because most of us if we’re honest, don’t want to look our age – we want to look as radiant and youthful as we possibly can. Luckily, there are numerous things we can do right now, that will, at the very least, help us to age gracefully, and quite possibly make us look a little younger than we actually are…

Use Sunscreen

First, and most important of all, if you want your skin to remain as smooth, radiant and youthful as possible for as long as possible, then you’re going to want to use sunscreen every day. The sun, more than anything else, will damage your skin and make it appear older (sometimes even older than you are) if you expose yourself to it unprotected on a regular basis. Of course, the sun’s rays can do more than make you look old – they can make you sick too, so be sure to always apply that sunscreen!

Eat a Healthy Diet

If you eat a diet that’s packed with junk food containing mountains of sugar, salt and fat, then don’t be surprised if you look in the mirror and see someone staring back at you who has more wrinkles than you’d expect! A poor diet does nothing to feed the skin, whereas a diet that’s high in fruits, vegetables and whole grains will feed it from the inside out, giving you a natural glow, even when you’re not wearing makeup.

Take Shilajit

Shilajit is an Ayurvedic ingredient, which is most commonly found growing in the Himalayan region. It is basically a mixture of long-decomposed animals and plants that were trapped between layers and layers of rock for thousands of years. Despite sounding pretty disgusting, it is prized by many people who collect it whenever it oozes out of the rocks, and for good reason. As well as helping to improve the memory and a whole host of other things you can read about here, Shilajit is packed with antioxidants. As you probably know, antioxidants, when taken regularly, can help to slow down the aging process for smoother skin!

Meditation isn’t just for self-denying monks, devoted Buddhists or hippie throwbacks – it’s for everyone, and if you want to look younger than your years and grow old as gracefully as possible, you should definitely give it a go. Why? Because stress, which is so prevalent in our society, has been proven to cause physical damage to the body when it is chronic, and meditation is a very effective way of diffusing stress. Of course, if that’s not your thing, taking lots of bubble baths, walking in nature or watching a great movie will all help too.

Moisturize Daily

This one is a no-brainer, but it’s worth repeating that, if you want to stay looking young, you need to moisturize, preferably twice daily. This is even more important as you get older because as we age, we not only become less effective at producing collagen, but our skin has a tendency to get drier, and the more we can do to help it fight back against these changes the better. Remember, moisturizing immediately after bathing or having a shower will help to lock in more moisture.

Control Your Eyebrows

This might seem silly, but if you’re the kind of person who has a really animated face, and you do a lot of eyebrow-raising, trying to control your impulse and using other parts of your body to display your surprise or skepticism will really help to preserve your face as you would like it because, unfortunately, raising the eyebrows often results in a line-filled forehead.

Get Your Beauty Sleep

It’s called beauty sleep for a reason you know! Getting your full 7-9 hours each night will help your body to repair itself, so that you wake up looking refreshed and fresh-faced each morning.

Omega-3s are Necessary

Omega-3 fatty acids are fantastic for the skin, and you can find them in all sorts of foods from oily fish to flax seeds, so no matter whatever kind of diet you’re on, you should have no trouble eating it regularly.

Give Up Smoking

If you’re a smoker, then I’m sure you already know how bad it can be for your health. Smoking has been linked to all kinds of diseases from lung cancer to heart disease and giving up for those reasons alone should be a no-brainer. Quitting, if you are able to do so, will also help you to look younger because smoking causes lines and wrinkles – something most of us would like to minimize.

Use Mineral Makeup

If you like to wear makeup, then try to buy mineral-based products (especially foundation) where you can. Why? Because mineral makeup is actually good for the skin. It doesn’t contain all of the nasties that your average product does, and that means that your skin will look better as a result. There is some pretty good mineral makeup available now as you can see here, so there is no reason not to make the switch., Give it a try, you might be surprised!

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is not only good for your body and your brain, but it will make your skin look younger and plumper too. When you’re hydrated, your skin ‘shrinks’ and becomes dull, which is why sipping on water throughout the day is a must.

Use Whitening Toothpaste

There aren’t many teenagers, and young people who have stained and discolored teeth are there? Which is wy, as well as taking very good care of your teeth; brushing twice a day and flossing regularly, using a tooth-whitening paste is also a good idea for those of you who wouldn’t mind looking a little younger than your actual age.

Get Bangs

Side Swept bangs are the perfect tool for hiding the wrinkles in your forehead, should you have any,and they are also a fairly youthful style too, so if you’re worried about the lines on your head (don’t do that; it’ll make them worse) book an appointment at the salon right now.

Cardiovascular Exercise

Cardio isn’t just good for your heart and your waistline – it can help you to look younger too. When you exercise, you boost the circulation of your blood around your body, and this is great for the skin- it’ll give you a pretty healthy glow in the immediate aftermath too!

Use Concealer

No matter what you do to try and look younger, or at least very good for your age, you won’t be able to fight the aging process 100 percent. You may get age spots, dark circles and other tell-tale signs that you aren’t as young as you used to be. Luckily, you can very easily deal with such problems by using a good concealer!

Don’t be Dowdy

Some Women, when they get older, think that they must start dressing more respectably, which really means dowdily! Although you might not want to put on a mini skirt or try to emulate your teen’s choice of outfit, there is absolutely no reason why you can’t keep dressing stylishly doing so will ensure that you stay looking young!

Hopefully, I’ve given you some good ideas as to how you can maintain that youthful glow well past your 40s, 50s and even 60s.
